The Farmer and his clan

Well I don't have any fancy pictures at this time but I do have one that I would like to post for shock value. It is of me standing in front of a pile o' horse dung that is taller and much, much wider than me.

See, our family is trying our hand at farming this summer. If you aren't familiar with the art of growing large quantities of vegetables, let me tell you how this is done.

Step 1 : Make sure you select a piece of property that hasn't ever seen the gleam of a plow in many years. Some may even refer to this land as "virgin timber". This ensures you will have the opprotunity to lacerate your hands pulling small trees with amazing root strength with your bare hands. I'm told it builds character. To spice things up for the kids who don't know what the word allowance even means, create wealth building opprotunities by bribing them. Offer one cent for every 10 boulders they manage to roll to the side of your property.

Step 2. Find a really large cow or horse. If this fails, beg local farmers for their dung because your entire acrage will need 2 inches of dung to act as fertilizer. Make certain to not bring any sunscreen as this will add to the persona that you are for real and one with the earth. Spend 8 hours shoveling this lovely smelling concoction. Then get up again the next day and do the same thing in the pouring rain and snow. This will add variety to the otherwise boring job of spreading manure.

Step 3 Build up a strong fence to repel vagrant cows and loitering deer who won't leave and could in one afternoon destroy all you have worked for. Spend a few Saturdays digging ditches with pickaxes and shovels.

Step 4 to be posted afer we plant over 400 tomatoes.

Well as you can see, farming reminds me of work. It has been enjoyable despite this fact. More postings to follow. GOOD LUCK LOGAN!!!!!
